I read this book about a thousand years ago, in college, when I was seriously studying dance, although this book really is not focused on the dancer. Sweigard provides really organic philosophies about the human body and its "movement potential" and ways to reach that potential -- both phsycially and mentally.

Anyone interested in better body alignment, maximizing physical power and grace, minimizing injury, and the imagery tools necessary to facilitate those outcomes should read this book. Ideokinesis is an approach to improving posture, alignment, and fluency of movement through structured guided imagery [1] that uses metaphors, such as visualizing an object moving in a specific direction along various muscle groups throughout the body, while lying completely still. Ideokinesis was originally developed as a form of mental practice for injured dancers, [6] but some dance schools have integrated it into a standard somatics protocol for all dancers because it is thought to optimize motor control and performance by using periods of rest constructively.
