Seborrheic dermatitis

Seborrheic dermatitis is a chronic disease with frequent intensifications. It is exhibited by increased formation of sebum and a change in its qualitative composition. The most common ones have been mentioned with the changes on the scalp, on the face, on the body in large folds. There are many sebaceous glands for that.

The sebaceous glands give the skin elasticity, protects it from drying out, and from the harmful effects of the external environment and infections. On a healthy skin, there is a lot of flora, including the Malassezia mycetes, which loves sebum. With another flora, that mycetes lives peacefully. When the properties of the secretion of sebaceous glands turns out to be changed, the normal flora becomes aggressive or pathogenic.

Malassezia mycetes begins to secrete lipase enzyme. And it breaks down sebum to free fatty acids, which cause inflammation. The blood supply to the hair follicles gets disrupted on the head and the hair starts to fall out.

What contributes to seborrheic dermatitis? It could be Neurogenic. Regulation of the sebaceous glands get disturbed in the direction of increasing the production of sebum, and this leads to reduce yielding.

Depression – The immunity is reduced, and the flora is activated.

Hormonal – It could be hormonal, too. Especially during the puberty period.

Genetic – When the reason is genetic, weakness is inherited from other generations.

HIV – The mmunity is all suppressed, and all of the flora becomes now active.

Excessive Sweating

Characteristic features for seborrheic dermatitis:

Pink spots, oily scales, sticky crusts, cracks, itching. Often on the scalp, face, ears, behind the ears, on the neck, on the back of the head, and on the chest.

Types of secretion of the sebaceous glands:

It could be very dry – like dandruff, strewed on clothes and also on shoulders. It could be more often seen in adolescence. Frequent washing with soap and hot water is essential to avoid the feeling of dryness and tightening of the skin.

It could also be thick – compressed skin is highly likely to be seen. The mouth of the sebaceous glands are dilated with lots of acnes. It may be confused by boils and atheromas.

Liquid – This time the skin is shiny, hair is greasy on the head, compressed and dense scales could lead to up until baldness. And pustules are possible to be seen in this case.

Mixed Type of the Disease – oily skin on the face – especially the nose, forehead, chin, but dry on the cheeks. It could be thick on the head and damp and wet on the face.
